Privacy Policy — Tab Search for Google Sheets

This is the privacy policy for the Tab Search for Google Sheets Chrome extension. It describes exactly what the extension reads, stores, and transmits.

What the extension reads

When you have a Google Sheets spreadsheet open, the extension reads the sheet tab names shown in the tab bar at the bottom of the page, so it can list and fuzzy-search them in the quick-switcher. It does not read the contents of your spreadsheet cells, formulas, or values, and it does not run on any site other than Google Sheets.

What is stored, and where

This extension's own code stores two kinds of state in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local): the tab you most recently switched to on each spreadsheet (recorded every time you switch tabs, for all users, though it is only shown to you as a Pro "recent tabs" list if you've upgraded) and the sheet tabs you've pinned as favorites (a Pro-only feature — pinning itself is unavailable on the free plan), and a cached copy of your Free/Pro purchase status with a timestamp, so the extension keeps working correctly during brief payment-service outages. None of this contains spreadsheet cell content or personal information.

Separately, the bundled ExtensionPay payment library keeps its own small records — an anonymous per-install API key, an install timestamp, and a cached copy of your purchase status object — using chrome.storage.sync when your browser has Chrome Sync available (falling back to chrome.storage.local otherwise). Data written to chrome.storage.sync is synced by Google across the devices signed in to your Chrome profile, the same as any other browser extension's synced settings. None of these ExtensionPay records contain your sheet tab names, spreadsheet identifiers, or spreadsheet content.

What the payment processor sees

The one-time Pro upgrade ($6, no subscription) is handled by ExtensionPay, a third-party payment processor, using Stripe for the actual card processing. When the extension checks your purchase status or opens the upgrade page, it contacts ExtensionPay's servers with only an anonymous, extension-generated API key — never your sheet tab names, spreadsheet identifiers, or spreadsheet content. If you choose to pay, you enter your payment details directly on ExtensionPay's own Stripe-backed checkout page; this extension's code never sees or stores your card details.

What this extension does not do

It does not use the Google Sheets API or OAuth, and it never requests or receives access to your Google account beyond the tab names visible on the page you already have open. It does not run any analytics or tracking code, and it collects no browsing history. It does not sell, share, or transfer any data to anyone, because it does not collect any data beyond the local, on-device state described above.
