Privacy Policy — Comment Exporter for YouTube™

This is the privacy policy for the Comment Exporter for YouTube™ Chrome extension. It describes exactly what the extension reads, stores, and transmits.

What the extension reads

When you have a YouTube watch page open, the extension reads the public comment threads YouTube itself already renders on that page: author name, comment text, like count, timestamp, and reply count for each top-level comment. It reads this only after you click the export button, and only from the single watch page you have open — it does not run on the YouTube homepage, search results, other channels, or any other site.

What happens to your exported file

Comments are formatted into a CSV or JSON file entirely inside your own browser and handed directly to your browser's normal download flow, saved to your device. This all happens on your machine. Your exported comment data is never sent to the developer of this extension or to any server the developer operates — there is no such server. Nothing about the comments you export is transmitted anywhere by this extension.

What is stored, and where

This extension's own code stores two small pieces of state in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local): a cached copy of your Free/Pro purchase status (so the extension keeps working briefly if the license check is momentarily unreachable, for up to 72 hours), and a one-time flag recording whether the automatic upgrade prompt has already been shown once. Neither of these contains comment text, author names, video identifiers, or personal information.

Separately, the bundled ExtensionPay payment library keeps its own records — an anonymous per-install API key, an install timestamp, and the account/subscription object ExtensionPay's own servers return about your Pro plan (which, depending on how you subscribed, may include account details such as your checkout email or subscription status) — using chrome.storage.sync when your browser has Chrome Sync available (falling back to chrome.storage.local otherwise). Data written to chrome.storage.sync is synced by Google across the devices signed in to your Chrome profile, the same as any other browser extension's synced settings. None of this ExtensionPay-managed data contains comment text, author names, or video identifiers.

What the payment processor sees

The optional Pro upgrade ($6/month) is handled by ExtensionPay, a third-party payment processor, using Stripe for the actual card processing. When the extension checks your purchase status or opens the upgrade page, it contacts ExtensionPay's servers with only an anonymous, extension-generated API key — never comment content, video data, or your YouTube/Google account details. If you choose to subscribe, you enter your payment details directly on ExtensionPay/Stripe's own hosted checkout page; this extension's code never sees or stores your card details.

What this extension does not do

It does not require a YouTube login, does not use any YouTube/Google API key, and never requests or receives access to your Google account. It does not run any analytics or tracking code, and it collects no browsing history. It does not sell or share any data with anyone; the only data leaving your browser at all is the anonymous ExtensionPay purchase check and the ExtensionPay account state described above.
